15 yr old male--motrin is the only over the counter product that some what helps---not intrested in meds with questionable side effects or without long term studies-- anything natural out there? missing too much school because of light sensitivity and pain when headache starts---then he has to sleep ---doctors suggest heavy duty meds or grin and bear it--have tried food eliminations and sugar control, peppermint aroma
sleep seems to be the only remedy
any other ideas?--previously on tegretol/carbamezapine for seizure disoder but has been seizure free for 6 years without meds and will not do blood tests as they have triggered seizures in the past

seizure meds are also often used with migraines and depression. Have you been to a neurologist? if you want to try the natural way, see if there is a chiropractor in your area that is a naturapath. I go to one and it has helped me a great deal. Just remember even natural supplements, still have interactions like prescription meds. I take a natural progesterone to control my hormonal migraines, but it is still a hormone replacement and comes with the same risks that synthetic hormones do.

Have you considered a possible problem with food intolerance. My daughter said her headaches were so bad she would say she felt like aliens were eating her brain. We found later through a food intolerance blood test (ThinkRite systems) that a hand full of foods that came up positive on her test were causing the problem. After we removed the problem foods from her diet, her headache left within a day and a half and never returned.
