Lump on temple - temporal headaches

I am 28 male, active and in shape 5' 11" 175lb

About a month ago I had a cold and my left temple got pretty sore for the duration of the cold which was less than a week long and then just turned into a small lump on my temple region (About twice the size of a pea). Sometimes (mostly later in the day) I get pulsating head/neck aches that seem to stem from this region of my head. They are definitely one sided headaches. This lump is greatly accentuated if I clench my jaw together and is greatly reduced or at least recesses when I open my mouth. At first I had some trouble opening wide to eat things, but that sort of went away...however I still cant seem to open as wide.

Went to the doctor a few weeks ago and they did blood tests and urine test and everything came out perfect. But when I went I was at the end of my cold and my BP was 160/82 I should have checked it again by now but I havent.

She said the bp was probably because I was still fighting an infection and prescribed me antibiotics and zyrtec for 10 days....this was all weeks ago.

I still get the headaches at least once every 2 days and the lump is there. Before all this I would get headaches MAYBE once a month.

What concerns me is this lump on my temple.

Re: Lump on temple - temporal headaches

Go back and have it looked at again, mention temporal artereitis to the doctor.

If its all clear with the doc, see a physical theratist,

Re: Lump on temple - temporal headaches

Yeah I had mentioned that to her and she looked at me like I was crazy and said that I am way too young to have that. However, even though she didnt believe that could be it, I think she still checked for it in the blood sample. I think it is discoverable by blood. Also, from what I have researched, it is also very much more unlikely to be found in men....on top of having to be over 50 years old.

Re: Lump on temple - temporal headaches

Thats good news then.

For releif of pain, my standbye is to take 2 Advil and 2 Percogesic at the same time, it gives great pain releif and is quite safe.

Re: Lump on temple - temporal headaches

Just figured I would revive this old thread with a diagnoisis I got from the Dr. My primary said he suspected it is a Lipoma...sent me to a Dermatologist...and the derm said he is 99% sure it is a Lipoma, right away. So he is sending me to a plastic surgeon to have the lil ******* removed...

Im suspecting it is caused from wakeboarding injury(s)...they say trauma can cause them..

Re: Lump on temple - temporal headaches

This turned out to be some kind of infection that put me in the hospital for 3 days. The infection swelled the whole left side of my head all the way from my forehead to the back of my head on one side...it was about an inch extended and was very freaky.

Days later and after a lot of IV antibiotics, I was released on a 10 day dose pack of antibiotics...once the swelling went away, the whole problem was gone for good never to return. That was about a year ago and it has never come back.

4 specialists and 2 MRI's while in the hospital could not figure out what the hell it was. We only suspect it was some odd infection since it responded well to the antibiotics. And we think the lump must have been some kind of pocket of infectious tissue or fluid that ended up bursting which caused all the inflammation. Or a cyst that burst and got infected under the skin. None of the doctors wanted to biopsy or slice it.
