Question What kind of headache is this?

Hi everyone!

I have had migraines although rarely starting in 2005 so I do know what migraines can feel like.
I have had these different kind of headaches beginning 3 years ago and they are starting up again, they seem to get bad during cold weather season.
I have seen my Dr for them and the only thing he has repeatedly told me is to treat them like I would a migraine.

I have had 2 MRI's (2004 and 2009) without contrast and they came back clear except for a bit of sinus build up.
I also had a CAT scan in 2007 which was also clear.

I would really like to know if anyone else is suffering from these headaches and what type they have been told they were.
Hopefully I am not the only one to have headaches like these yet I have not yet found anyone who has had anything similar.

Here is my description of the "headaches".

They feel METALLIC, this is the only way I can explain or describe them. The closest comparison I can give is if, during playing baseball and you hit the ball wrong using an aluminum bat and you get that thud, clang shocking metal feeling in your hands, and yes I used to be an avid ball player and this has happened to me countless times! lol

I get that similar sensation in my head and usually starts deep in my head more so behind my eyes, it spreads to the rest of my head and I begin to feel nauseated at a some point.
Then this METALLIC HEADACHE sensation spreads throughout my body, I feel the same feeling in my stomach, arms, legs, chest.........it just spreads.
This is the main reason I wonder if this is even truly a headache as I have never heard of anyone's headache spreading throughout their body.

They usually happen during the night but have had a few episodes during the day (like today) , the scariest part of these episodes is what happens as well.
I usually have a terrible sleep when they come on, drifting in and out and waking up to pain, nausea, dizziness AND the scariest of all....a distorted sense of time and reality.
Everything seems strange, weird and just otherwordly!
I also get this intense feeling of self awareness and my surroundings and I almost always feel really tiny and small and like I am not real.

I used to kind of freak out but now I know they will pass yet they are still awful!
When they do hit they always last ALL NIGHT long and they only thing I can do is try to sleep them away.
The worst episode I had during the day was scary as I was walking around the house and it seemed the walls and floors were bending and moving and I felt small yet I felt like a giant and the floor seemed way down low.........altered sense of perception or reality I guess, I dont know what you would call it but it is not nice!

I do notice that when I get these headache (and bodyaches) that my stomach always feels weird as well, like its constantly tense or the scared feeling you get in the first instant of getting startled.

I just feel really loopy although I had not taken anything and I usually do not as I have kind of a fear of drugs of any sort with an older sister being a drug addict.
Another symptom I get with it is a vibrating deep in my chest, like a humming, buzzing feeling and my hands get really shaky and I always feel shaky and completely wiped out.
At times I feel so heavy that even breathing seems like an effort.
I know it must sound strange but I really do hope that I am NOT ALONE in these miserable episodes.

Thanx to all in advance and I truly hope to hear from someone!

Re: What kind of headache is this?

Nobody at all? :-(
Not even anything similar to this?
This really concerns me and I was really hoping somebody would have experienced this as well and maybe had an idea what it is or what type head pains these are and even what they may be related to or be caused by.

Somebody???
Anybody?

Re: What kind of headache is this?

Albertagirl, I don't get those headaches, but just wanted to chime in to say I'm sorry it's happening to you. I know what you mean when you describe a metallic feeling though. thankfully, you had so many tests that it seems it's not something horrible!! Maybe try changing your diet or doing a cleanse?? good luck --- let me know how you do!!
