Unhappy Chronic headaches on right side of head

Would appreciate any information that anyone has on why I might be having chronic headaches. Here is some background.

Female
40 years old (chronic headaches started when I was about 37-38)

Always on the right side of my head.
They last from 6-11 weeks.
Out of 10, they are usually a 3-5
Excedrin Migraine pills will improve it to a 2-3 for a couple of hours
Moves around on the right side of my head, around the ear, around the right temple, behind my right ear.

Tried a 3 day IV of depacon medicine from a headache specialist. Didn't work. Then immediately after the 3 day did a 5 day IV of keppra medicine from the same specialist - this time it went away (headache ended July 1st, 2009)

3 months later got the same headache back (started Sept. 25th, 2009).
Tried a shot of topamax - didn't work.
Then did the 5 day IV of keppra - didn't work this time.
Tried a different 5 day IV of medicine (all of these are from same headache specialist) - didn't work.
Still have the headache now.

I am taking a daily pill (Namenda memantine HCL tablets). Started these Oct. 22, 2009.

I am looking for any ideas on how I can find the cause(s) of my headaches. I am not having a lot of luck with my specialists, they just keep trying different medicines but not trying to identify the root causes of my headaches.

Thanks a million

Re: Chronic headaches on right side of head

I had headaches for years on my right side of head, neck and shoulders. Docs just kept saying it was tension. Finally, I got a doc that requested an MRI, and found I have 2 bulging disc's in my cervical neck, which is still causing headaches. I have gotten 4 epidurals in two years, the last one worked for 9 months, (no headaches), now they have come back and I am getting another epidural next week. In between the epidurals, I get trigger point injections (lidocaine), they also help a lot. Try going to a good pain management doctor.

Re: Chronic headaches on right side of head

Have you ever tried Botox injections? This is something my PM doctor is going to try for my headaches. I am on Topamax 200 mg daily right now, and i also get Facet injections every 8 weeks because my headaches stem from my severe whiplash and cervical sprain. This all happened 2 years ago and I still have not found a way to fix the pain.
