Headaches from old injurie

About 10 years ago I was in a bad car accident. I had multiple skull fractures, my nose was crushed and the bones beneath crushed. I had plastic and metal parts put beneath my eye to hold it up, however my nose was not a "nesasary surgery" and I had no insurance so it remaines to this day very crooked. During my recovery I had some headaches, 3 or 4 a month that eventually faded to 1 a month or so. But now 10 years later I am suffering from daily severe headaches. I have no insurance and I was wondering if I splurge for a doctor what tests would be done to find the cause? If tests show nothing would a doctor still possibly prescribe me somthing for the pain? If so what? My pain ranges from a 6 to a 9 on bad days.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Headaches from old injurie

I would definaty splurge on seeing a doctor. The headaches might be related to your accident, but they might be somthing entrely different.

There are a few tricks doctors have for chronic headaches..... tricyclic antidepressants are widely used, and quite helpful (you dont need to be depressed for them to work)

Antiinflamatory drugs releive the pain in some cases

Anticonvulsant drugs are also quite popular.

I would go to a doctor and explain your insurance problem - you might not need expensive tests, the doc might be able to do some basic ones in his office.

Many of the meds that help headaches are avaliable genericly, for example on the $4 prescription plans a lot of pharmacies have.... perhaps you could ask your doctor if there is somthing he can prescribe that is generic.
