My wife, who has suffered migraine headaches since age 8, has found Imitrix injections to have been a Godsend since 1998 providing relief for these almost daily occuring events. Her doctor recently prescribed Topamax as a preventative treatment, beginning initially with 2 25mg tablets at bedtime for 7 days to be increased to 2 25mg tablets 2X daily for the next 7 days, followed by 3 25mg tablets 2x daily for the next 7 days ending with 4 25mg tablets 2x daily. She has also been taking Klonopin for 3 years as well and the doctor is recommending continuing both until reaching the final Topamax dosage level before assessing any changes. Her initial reaction to the Topamax was dizziness and reduction in motor coordination as well as a return of a nausea feeling. At first she minimized the side effects because she woke up headache free but is now considering dropping the protocol as she is concerned about the efficacy and impact of this medication longer term, particularly with Klonopin. Her doctor claims he has several patients on both medications without any problems. Has there been any published studies for Topamax use for headaches and are the side effects a continuing issue that has to be accepted or does it diminish over time?
