Migraine and Eye Pain

Alright, so I've been struggling with migraines associated with eye pain for the last couple of years. Probably starting in 04-ish.

I've been diagnosed with "White-Without-Pressure" from my retinal specialist (I also wear glasses) and I'm currently prescribed "Butalbital/ASA/Caff/Codeine" by my family doctor for constant migraine complaints as well as having received a shot on my last complaint to my doctor after a 3 day battle with one. I've been on the medication for about a month, the first few times it worked great but now the medication, as well as over-the-counter medicines like Ibuprofen aren't doing anything to stop the pain. I always try not to take the medication and stick to over-the-counter unless it doesn't work, mostly because it makes me extremely tired. I was prescribed on 2/23/11 and still have 11 left out of 30 if that means anything with it not working anymore and how often I take it. I probably get this way about once or twice a week, sometimes with a single migraine and eye pain lasting for days at a time before leaving. If it's of any use, I do not have any food allergies minus mangoes which I never eat, and I do not suffer from seasonal allergies. I also am not a big caffeine user.. I haven't had caffeinated sodas in years, mostly a big water drinker, and I don't enjoy coffee.

Symptoms I have are of course the migraines, usually behind one of my eyes and the entire side of the front of that part of my head. When I stand up from sitting or bend over to do something I feel sharp pains engulf my head, and usually spots or flashes of lights. I've felt the last couple of times as though I were about to faint or black out, and sometimes I feel nausea. The last couple of times, and I don't know how to describe this very well, but it feels as though my mind is blanking out?

Any ideas on why this is happening? My doctor doesn't do anything to tell me why or what's causing it, just keeps medicating it more.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Migraine and Eye Pain

Have you tried seeing a neurologist?

Re: Migraine and Eye Pain

All I've done so far is go to my family doctor. We told him the prescription he gave me wasn't working anymore and asked about possibly getting a scan done, but all he told us was that it wouldn't do any good and that migraines can be triggered by a number of different things and gave me a shot while telling me to take the prescription on top of it.

Re: Migraine and Eye Pain

Sounds like it is time to see a neurologist. Migraines can live behind the eye and the flashes sound like auras. When you feel like blacking it is definitely time to see a neurologist if it is related to the migraine. Good luck.

Re: Migraine and Eye Pain

There are several aspects to a migraine and it more often than not includes eye pain. I've been suffering from them for the vast majority of my life. The problem I had was my body getting used to the injectable pain relievers after the first dose! Vicodine just Gave me piggy back headaches which is simply having the migraine compounded by another kind of headache. Someone told me to try medical cannabis and my first reaction was ," Sure it works, you get so high you forget you even had a headache." After being on topamax for nine successful headache free years it stopped be affective. I take so many medications for various ailments that the thought of taking another again did not appeal to me. In the end looking for help for my three times a day migraines it did in fact get a refferal for the medical cannibus. The result was yes I got a little high but dadgum it I was headach free and being today is the next day I'm still headache free! So I have to sing it's praises. Hope this helps.
