Question Migraine treatment options?? there must be something that will help!

I have been suffering from migrains for about 3 years now. I have had many tests, all came back normal. I have also tried many different medicines, pills and injections both. I have been put on prevenitive medicines. Nothing seems to help, at least not for long. My migrains are so bad that i was unable to attend the majority of my senor year in high school which caused me to fail. i have a very difficult time in my day to day life. I get migrains at least once a week and they last for several days. My longest migrain lasted about 2 weeks and was not responsive to any medicine.

Does anyone know of a treatment that could help?

I have tried several different doctors and they all seem to take a wild guess at different medicines and they done work..

please help!

Hi jonahwil, I'm sorry to hear that your migraines come so often! Do your migraines come on randomly or have you been able to successfully identify any triggers? I realized that medications weren't going to always work for me, so I had to make lifestyle changes and give up certain things I really enjoyed. That's frustrating that you have already seen different doctors. Do you mind sharing what kind of doctors you saw, like a neurologist or other type?

what kind of meds have you tried?

I am currently on nortriptyline...since oct..it has helped a bit but am thinking of trying topomax pr propranolol. everything seems to have bad side effects. Its all trial & error.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. Have you tried DHE treatment for intractable migraine? You get it in the hospital ER, it takes a couple of hours. It got rid of one of mine I'd had for 3 weeks! It's now available as a rescue medicine - much lower strength, but very effective. The new drug is Migranal. Try to avoid taking any rescue medicines more than twice a week. You can develop "bounce back" or "rebound" headaches from too many rescue medicines. The migraine medicine pocket is very deep. I have tried anti-depressants, anti-hypertensives, seizure meds, and on and on. Everyone reacts differently for results and side effects. Find a good headache specialist, and keep trying. Good luck!
