Having tried many doctors and many preventive medicines with no success, I am now under the care of a headache clinic. The doctor wanted to admit me to the hospital for 5 days of continuous IV meds. The idea is to leave the hospital after 5 days and never have another headache. Has anyone been through a treatment similar to this? Please let me hear from you. I am reluctant to submit to such a treatment plan.

I have taken imitrex for over 12 years and I still take it and it still helps. I have about 15 to 20 migraine attacks per month. I know that is excessive use of imitrex and I would love to stop taking it if I can find relief from the headaches.

I also suffer from Migraines for over 24 years and been on many medications. I take Imitrex and it doesn't always seem to help and it's way to expensive for the amount of migraines per month. I have at least 20 days out of a month with a headache. I wouldn't mind getting treatment in the hospital if it can be resolved. If I were you, I would do it. Good Luck!

Please let us know if you decide to get that treatment and how it goes! I have not heard of that kind of extended stay treatment either. That is wonderful that Imitrex continues to work for you. I understand your concern about taking it often. My neurologist warned me that I could get rebound headaches not only from OTC medicines, but migraine prescriptions as well. He said to try to not take them more than 2 or so times per week, but that can be a big challenge for many people out there! I hope you are able to find something that helps reduce the number of migraines you are getting. Keep us posted!
