headache in back of head on right side

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me on what might be going on with me. For the past couples days I've had a pain in the back of my head close to the base of my skull it radiates the right side from the back to the front by my temple. It is constant it hasn't gone away I go to sleep with the pain I wake back up with it and its kinda worrying me. It kinda goes away when I stay still but if I cough it hurts if I lay down laying on my right side it hurts I roll over to my left and the pressure feels like its relieved. Also if I tighten up my adomen or bend down it makes that spot hurt. I don't know what could cause this I've searched and I haven't found anything like it so far. So if someone could give me any ideas or advice asap it would be very much appreciated!

Re: headache in back of head on right side

I get headaches very similar to yours, only it happens with both sides... sometimes one worse than the other. Usually my right side is the one that bothers me, but lately my left side has been acting up more. This has been a struggle going on for about a year now and I haven't had any luck with the doctors I've seen. Things seem pretty normal to them. My primary doctor was the most helpful since she noticed a lot of muscle spasms and had my try muscle relaxers (did not help) and Xanax, which I already take in a low dosage occasionally for anxiety (and this actually sometimes helps, even though I'm not at all anxious when it happens). Have you ever read about trigger points in the back of your head/neck area? If not, definitely look them up and see if any of the symptoms agree with what you are feeling. The tricky part is, trigger points can be caused by an underlying problem. One specialist said I may have cervical disc issues. I'm actually going to see a chiropractor for upper cervical adjustments. I know not everyone likes chiropractors or feels comfortable with them, but the one I talked to follows a very conservative approach and had explanations for my symptoms. I'll definitely have to post back later on if it helps.

In the meantime, I highly suggest trying your best to practice good posture while sitting and try to lay down a little each day to rest of your head. Problems like this often happen from working on a computer often, which I do during work. I also try to stretch and move around more often, which helps me feel decent during the day. I hope you feel better soon!

Re: headache in back of head on right side

sounds like a pulled muscle or cramp. do you eat bananas that helps with muscle cramp. use warm packs on it and do your best to relax.. stretch out the muscles if you can too that might help
