Severe headache only when I move + ringing in ears

For the last 2 months I've experienced severe headache pain on the left side of my head, but ONLY when I move my head (either up/down or side/side). Also, I have experienced an intermittent (several hours a day) roaring/ringing sound in my ears, accompanied with mild dizziness.

The headache is 24/7, and not alleviated by ibuprofen or aspirin. Whenever I mildly shake my head, the pain is there. Dull, pressure pain. And then with the ears, it's like a loud, dull roaring sound, experienced not constant, but daily. The dizziness is not acute, but there with the ear ringing.

I have an appointment w/ the Dr, but what do these symptoms suggest?

I did have Thyroid cancer in 2006, so I am -- shall we say -- quite curious about what's going on.

Re: Severe headache only when I move + ringing in ears

Hi, these symptoms are almost exactly the same as my own, I have been having continual problems with pressure in my head and ears, causing headaches and dizziness, often becoming worse in when i'm travelling. This was an on gong problem for a long time but over the past few months got much worse, after seeking specialist help I was diagnosed with temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The symptoms of this are very much like sinusitis and are often confused with ear or sinus issues. Do the symptoms heighten in times tension? It's worth looking in to as it may be this!

Hi Emmawarren -- thanks for the response. I'll definitely check out TMJ as a possible cause. What specialist did you work with to achieve this diagnosis? I have an appointment with a neurologist, but not knowing the cause of these symptoms I'm not sure if I should see an ENT, neuro, someone who specializes in chronic sinusitus, or what?
