Health/Dental/Vision etc Discount card programs - Health Insurance Issues Message Board

Hello,
Have any of you purchased discount cards for health, dental & vision? I don't think I can write the name of the program I found online (board policy), but it provides a guaranteed 20-30% off of usual & customary services for certain MDs, dentists, optometrists, etc - if you pay a monthly fee. I'm probably going to try it, as you can cancel with 30 days notice at any time. Just wanted to get some feedback from others who may have gone this route.

I was also looking into a dental discount plan.
I think i'm gonna talk to my cousin (who is a dentist, but doesn't help me out...that s.o.b, hahahahaha) to see if he actually takes those discount plans. I guess your best bet, is to actually talk to ur doc or his/her secretary to see if the accept those plans.

Personally, I am kind of suspicious of these programs ... but if these come with a free evaluation period, then my suggestion is to sign up and take the cards and paperwork to your regular doctor/dentist/pharmacist etc and see what they say about them.

While I am suspicious, it is not unthinkable for a physician to take part in this. The 80% he gets from you for his care is MUCH MUCH higher than any reimbursement he will get from a health insurance company, Medicaid, or Medicare.

It depends on the insurance company as to wether 80% is reasonable or not. Most doctor's I know don't set their fees much above the best paying insurance plan.

That being said, check the provider's that are available with the network. Are their enough dentists, specialists, etc in your area? If so, it may be a very good deal, otherwise, its useless.
