Declined by Blue Cross- What are my chances with Blue Shield?
I recently posted that I was insured by my Employer's Group Plan for 30 years.. Out of work for too long....Went onto Cobra. Exhausted Cobra and applied for an Individual Plan with Blue Cross of CA.
I was declined due to some big mistakes on my part filling out the application. I was going to appeal but a broker advised me that to avoid a break in coverage, (I was running out of time) that I should forget the appeal which could take forever, get onto a HIPAA Plan with a different insurer for now (Blue Shield) and then stay with Blue Shield and apply for a regular (underwritten) Individual Plan with them. He added that Blue Shield seems to also have less stringent underwriting policies than Blue Cross....At least here in CA.
I know I won't have any problem getting a Blue Shield HIPAA plan but what happens when it comes time to apply for one of their underwritten Plans and they ask "have you ever been declined before/please explain".
I have to be truthful and say yes.
My question is: Why would ANY insurance company want to insure you if you've been declined by another? What are my chances that Blue Shield will accept my explanation of "application form mistakes"????????
