I am a 22 year old female, reside at home with my parents. My mother is retiring in 2 months, and I will lose my insurance. I am currently on 5 prescription medications, all of which I need. I am unable to work because of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which I have had for about a year, but only recently became so ill I had to stop working and drop out of school. My parents are able to pay for individual health care for me, but is that the best option?? I have zero income. I am afraid most of my meds won't be covered. I am 'techincally' disabled because of my CFS, otherwise I would be working. What should I do??? Get individual healthcare, or is there another option? My parents can afford up to 120 a month for my insurance but no more.

Contact your state department of insurance. They should have a help line.
You will probably need state or federal help or maybe you can find an open enrollment HMO. Remember, no insurance company wants to insure a problem or potential problem.

I am sorry for what you are going thru. I have a daughter with cancer and no one would help. But in answer to you there are several web sites that you can go to for Free Meds. Your Doctor should be able to help you also or the hospital Social Worker. Please contact them.

Thanks to you both.

You said I should contact my state dept. of insurance..what is that?? (sorry to be so ignorant!! My parents have always dealt with these things!) How would I do that?? Also, what exactly is an HMO and what is open enrollment??
If I apply for individual healthcare, will anyone insure me with my current health probs?? Will they ask for my medical background?? Although I DO have Chronic fatigue, there is no medication I take for that. I do have asthma, GERD, and insomnia and a Minor heart prob (but I buy my heart med without insurance, it is cheap)so I don't have any major health issues. I'm so confused!! If I lived by myself, I am sure I would get all my meds for free..but since I live with my parents, who have pretty good income, I don't know if I'll qualify....
p.s. dyana...I'm so sorry for what you daughter (and you) are going through. I wish her a FULL recovery and the BEST medical treatment!!!! It is not fair for a person to not get the best treatment just because they don't have insurance.

Also, I DO NOT want to give up my doctor. If I get gov. assistance, will I have to give him up and go to one of their docs?? that is my worst nightmare. My doc is the best and one of the only docs I fully trust. I have seem so many bad docs and do not want to risk my health with one of them.
