This makes me thankful that I was approved in 07 and did not have to go in front of a ALJ. My sons approval went through recently at the first stage . I can't imangine having to go through all that and then be denied. I am younger then 50, and my son is only 18.
Yes it is starting to get harder to get ssdi or ssi now, the ssa is starting to police it's self a little bit better now to catch the people who do not deserve it, but in the process people who deserve it get caught in the middle and are rejected.

The sheer increase in the number of TV commercials from firms claiming..... "we will get/collect your disability benefits" is mind numbing and says it all.I would imagine that FAR MORE ineligible, fraudulent, scam cases are started .........clogging up the system thus hurting the many many legitimate applicants.
Truly a sad situation that will only increase as the economy worsens IMO

Yep it reminds me back in the 70s we use to call lawyers like that ambulance chasers wanting you to sue if you got hurt in a auto accident.

So true Ferd...the internet is also saturated with law firms and and other SSDI advocates (advertising) wanting to help you get SSDI. Sadly, many people view this as applying for a job that might take 2-3 years to get. Many people are truly disabled and deserve SSDI but there are those who are able to work , can't find or don't wanna find work, and see SSDI/SSI as a viable, longterm income option. This is sad but it is also very true. Many of the scammers are good and there are actually some doctors who will help them. It is very hard for SS to detect and stop these ppl.
