If i break my nose, will insurance pay for a nose job. Its already not straight, but i dont think i've ever broken it. Im 16 years old

Hi,

Oh my, please don't break your nose just so insurance will pay for it! Your insurance *may* pay for it, depending upon your medical condition. If it is done for cosmetic reasons (just to make it look better for instance), insurance probably won't.

You said your nose isn't straight. Do you have a medical condition such as a deviated septum, problems breathing, etc. that would qualify you to have it fixed surgically?

If you haven't already been to a doctor, I suggest you see an ear, nose and throat doctor (ENT). He/She will be able to exam you and tell you your options.

Health insurance however defineately will not pay for the treatment of a self inflicted injury.

It has been a year since my surgery. Deviated septum & collapsed airway valve. The cartalige was deteroiating. While I was having surgery, I wanted the tip made a little smaller. My insurance paid $17,000 and I paid $3,000 for the cosmetic portion. The surgery lasted about 5 hours and was just horrible. There wasn't enough cartalige to correct everything but he got me about 90% fixed. One plastic surgeon said he couldn't fix all my problems and sent me to the one that finally operated on me.
I had broken my nose many years ago and I let a eye, ear, nose & throat doctor fix it. I didn't have sense enough to see a plastic surgeon, and I live in a small town where none is available.
My recent propblems were more than likely from not seeing a plastic surgeon years ago.
I wasn't getting deep sleep, I was having morning headaches, and occasional chest pains (thought it was a heart attack) all from lack of oxygen.
Be very careful who you let touch your nose, it could lead to worse problems later.

If you ask a family practitioner today who they would get to operate on them for a nose job, they will tell you an ENT every time -- not a plastic surgeon. There is a fellowship available for ENTs who want to perform reconstructive surgury, ideally you would want to see an ENT who had completed this for a follop rhinoplasty.
