Be careful I had all checks for my son put in an account for him for when he reached 18 now they send me a letter that they want a check made out to them in the full amount Now what
I totally agree with you. My son is 13 and he was fully approved, after a long wait, and numerous doctors and psychiatric treatments, and also school, even so I had to hire a lawyer to get approved. Well now his back pay is being paid in 3 installments, and they are asking me when and what did I spend the money in. I am a disable person myself (fibromyalgia and chronic arthritis), so that means I can't work either. And now they say I have to pay it back, all his meds and doctors and therapists are covered by medicaid. He is in a public school, so they provide the books and materials for studying. So I ask myself what can I use this money for? I had an eviction notice, lost my car due to an error of Geico, have BEDBUG problems, had to toss away all my furniture last year, gues what; I live in housing projects, they "sprayed", but these critters won't go away. The new furniture that I got is infested too. So I have to get new furniture. My car which I had to buy and old one has no heat/ac, needs a new door hinge, new tires. etc. And I cannot even use this money, which I consider is in benefit of him, If I don't pay my rent, we end up in the street, If I don't get new furniture AGAIN, then I am negligent as a parent, and I need a car to bring him to his appointment because of my medical condition. I mean so many restriction with a money that in first place, I believe, he has the right to get, he sees me struggle and tells me: "mom, why can't we use the money that's there, we really need it". It is so confusing with all the laws and contradictions of Social Security; it's so ridiculous! You know I can keep going and going on so many examples. I mean why do we have to suffer and struggle while the money and the help is sitting there in a so called "dedicated account"?
I feel the same way about these crazy rules! I am a single mother of three and the middle child was granted thousands, but my car is on empty and just ran out of diapers and pull-ups yesterday. I took two months off of working to finish my education. I take the monthly to pay rent, and refund check paid up everything else. My daughter doesn't need a wheel chair or machines, so I guess the money will just sit there!? If she did need a machine, we'd be in big trouble because right now our budget is zero and I can't use the money for lights. "Yeah, she has a brand new wheel chair, but she hasn't ate in three days because SSI told her it wasn't approved yet??? Someone needs to go back to the drawing board on this one!! I have never done drugs or been in any real trouble with the law other than traffic tickets. Why don't they just screen us and weed out the bad apples?? I can't believe we have to beg for money that's owed to us! I thought we were going to be ok, but now I just don't know.
