Re: Medicare

My Medicare kicks in today too!

The best part was making a phone call to Blue Cross yesterday, to cancel my policy. I have used Blue Cross for 20+ years, but it will be really nice to not have to pay almost $500 a month anymore.

I here you on that one $500 a month, now sock that away in the bank and this time next year you will have $6,000 in the bank.

He can't fix my leg no one can, but I have a shrunken bladder and the pills I am on to help me not go to the bathroom seem to stop working. Now I can go and see a urologist down here and see about treatment options. Also have to see a ortho dr.. Besides that and my feet hurting from walking on pavement for the past 30 years on my job I'm in good shape. Can't go dancing but I can sure shuffell my feet allot. But I do exersice my arm allot by doing 12oz. Curls with Budweiser as my partner.

Re: Medicare

Question for Vann:

For 4 1/2 years I have had these back problems, seeing back specialists, chiropractors, physical therapists, getting MRIs and X-rays, and on and on. So all these people have my name and phone number, and know I have back issues - and I never received one telemarketing type of call about my back.

The day I go on Medicare, I start receiving phone calls trying to sell me all sorts of 'back pain relief gadgets', books, info on back clinics, etc. I have not answered any of the calls, I just let the machine get them. Many of the calls end with "covered by Medicare".

Obviously my name, phone number and type of medical problem was sold.

Are you getting medical telemarketing calls today too?

Not yet and I better not get any calls because you are protected under hipa law. Your insurance co. Can be sued if they try to sell your Medicare info.

That is why I find it so strange. I NEVER get telemarketing calls, and my landline number has been unlisted for decades. Then I start getting calls on the day I start Medicare. Very odd.

Re: Medicare

I was surprised about 7 months ago, I got a letter in my former employers envelope from Allsup! They did not say they knew of my medical, issues - BUT, if I had them Allsup would be more than happy to handle them for me if I was disabilty qualified.

I nearly fell out of my chair. Of course, this would benefit my employer - if I were to be proven disabled, they are off the hook, sorta of, on the insurance they cover me on.
(my insurance will becomes secondary)

Florida does sell your drivers license data -- that makes me crazy. I'm on every DO NOT CALL ME list there is. Actually I think Florida sells anything that will make them a buck.

I know it's expensive in Florida it cost us a little under $500 to register our car here from a illionis plate to a Florida plate. And then our auto insurance doubled here.

Auto insurance is really determined by ZIP code. I discovered this by playing with the Progressive's website one day not so long ago. And if I put in my zip its the same basically as I have now, and if I put in my friends zip code it drops drastically. When I called another company, I told the guy on the phone the same thing -- so he said nooooooooo.. so I told him to put in 'this zip' and when he did he was shocked.

The car transfer thing has been in affect for about 15ish years. Coz folks would come here from out of state and take jobs- put their kids in school and not pay the taxes everyone else had to pay as residents. So the legislature passed the statute - which also says IF you work in Florida and/or your kids are schooled in Florida then your auto tags MUST be Florida tags.

One of my snowbird neighbors from PA said they did the same thing there and she had to change everything back (including voting) coz she had property there and here and it benefited her more to be officially in PA than in FL.

At the end of the day, you're not paying for heating oil/heat source and snow tires and your vehicles aren't getting eat up with road salt etc.

Home owners insurance should you purchase will be crazy too. but as I read in the paper, seems all ins companys have become the new pharmaceutical "mob" -- can't live with them/can't live without them. If you've not bought a home yet, DO NOT FAIL to get renters insurance. Be safe than sorry.

Hugs

Im from Michigan another no fault state and it was high there also, then i lived in Illinois for a few years were they did not have no fault so insurance was allot cheaper. But i like the fact that there is no snow. Electric is high here . But no state tax thats why some thing"s cost more here. Btw snow tires have not been on cars in years, you use all season radials. But thank you also we are just going to rent cheaper plus I don't want anymore home repairs or lawn work I had enough of that up north. Im going to like it here only going to miss the fall weather up north and the cider mills and doughnuts. But my body is going to love the warm weather.

Ha!!! I had no idea they stopped snow tires. I knew they stopped chains. LOL.

Since you are going to rent, and I truly get the home repair thing - (I own my home and I'm tellin ya, it is a PITA to get someone reliable or honest to fix things if you don't know someone - in fact it becomes exhaustive especially since the 92 Hurricane/Andrew and has only gotten worse since) Florida has become the place where con's come to rip off the seniors and anyone else they can get in their grasp -- and especially so during emergency conditions.

BUT -- again, I strongly stress this.. Since you are going to RENT: In case of hurricane, tornado, sink holes, fire, flood, thefts or whatever kind of destructive emergency obtain Renters Insurance. Your landlord/condo association is not going to - nor are they required to - cover your contents -- only their structure/property. I know too many who did not have it and lost everything.

We have renters insurance through state farm thats how we were able to lower the cost of the auto insurance. We have to manny valuable things she has a sewing machine that she paid over $8,000 for we have over $50,000 of personal items.
