Or drive it up to SSA office yourself, let them spend their time, copy paper & copier ink etc to make the copies of stuff they lost while you wait and to get your originals back.

thanks. shes sending out another prepaid envelope and giving me an extension. I am jus going to resend it certified mail tomorrow. It's 12 pages. I have 2 young kids and to schlep them around is not easy. The older ones are in school but the younger ones it's a challenge getting this kind of stuff done. My computer doesn't even have a phone jack or I could fax it I wish I could've emailed it. I don't get how they could've lost it?

Alexandermama, I think if you cerficate it it makes something else happen If I remmber right someone else did that and it delayed the process I'm going to see if I can find out where I read it please I don't think it helps to cerficate it. I'll get back with you .
I agree do not send it certified mail if you want some proof that you mailed it then do a delivery conformation. You will have proof you mailed it and the office got it. You can even get a tracking number if you want so you will know what day they got it. Both these are cheaper than sending anything certified mail and will more than likely give you the proof and peace of mind you are wanting. Any time a state or federal agency gets something certified it causes problems.

why does sending it certified cause problems? What's the difference between that and dc? DC just says it was received. Certified says it was signed for.

The problem becomes who signs for what. Often no one wants to sign for things as then they become liable for the contents. Many offices have a policy that only certain people can sign for certified mail. If that person is not around or busy and does not sign something it goes back to the post office to be redelivered this can be two to four days later. Your letter can go back and forth for some time and in the meantime as far as your case worker is concerned you did not get the items in on time. Best solution call and ask if anyone can sign for certified letters or if they even accept them at all as some offices will not accept them at all. A certified letter can be refused.

It could also be, that to have something signed for, may require a different address. Also, understand, the USPO if you get it signed or just confirmed, says they delivered an envelope. There is not any 'proof' of the contents.
I know that sounds really really cruddy, but I've actually had that happen to me before. USPO has signed paper, that party agree's they got said envelope.. but contents.. THATS another story.
There are fax machines that confirm recieved and show a portion of the paper you faxed. We had to use that at my job -- for 'our' protection (not the customer). In case the customer said they didn't get anything at the fax# they told us to fax the documents.
Play down the 'I'm going on vacation'. It doesn't bode well for someone who's making a disability claim. I wanted to go on a cruise, take a break and get away from all this crap while I was waiting and waiting -- and if you've ever been on a cruise, you know that there is NOT ONE FINGER to lift. You literally live in luxury. Everything is done for you.
My atty nearly had a stroke! Concerned that the court would take that as I can't work but I can go on vacation and party.
So I just would say going out of town - IF you must give them any info regarding that at all. Otherwise, leave it out.
I so agree with this. we all know that we are the most deserving people for a Vacation. We all need a break from the Crap that Social Security makes us go through. I would not mention the Vacation, that might cause a flag to go up, you do not need to mention it.
