Backpay Question?

You guys have been extremely helpfully with questions I needed answered about my hubby SSDI disability. We are still waiting on the approval letter...My question is with my husband's backpay is he going to get it lump sum or are they going to break it up into payments. It has been a very long journey for us. Thanks alot

Re: Backpay Question?

I was wondering the same thing as i have just been approved for ssdi! Hope all works out for you and yours! Maybe someone else with a little more experience will see your post and can help you further! I believe ssi is in payments, and ssdi is a lump sum. Don;t take my word for it i may be wrong as I'm still waiting!!! Sorry i couldn't be of more help!

Ssi is broken into separate payments ssdi is a lump sum after your lawyer is paid. They always get paid first.

It could take up to 90 days the processing center is so overloaded that they are about 3 months behind. And if you don't have direct deposit you will get your money on a debit card.

Re: Backpay Question?

For SSI the social security office breaks the backpay up in payments which you receive every 6 months , for SSI backpay you only get a maximum of one year...

Call your SSI rep (the number that called you to get your info) and ask them. They should know! They gave me my first $2000 (SSI) within days, and then I got about $8000 more in lump sum from SSI a couple weeks later. A couple weeks after that I got my remaining $8000 or so from SSDI. In total it was about 6 weeks to get it ALL. I don't get any SSI now, as i make too much, that was all because I got approved to be paid for my first 5 months (and SSI primary, SSDI secondary for months 6 - 18). So again for others out there, apply for SSI for the first 5 months!! It's worth it! The extra money I gained by doing that essentially paid my attorney fees!

Re: Backpay Question?

did you have to show medical bills? they owe me $8000 in backpay for ssi I applied for ssdi for myself and children today on my husbands record. I called today to check on backpay, they said there was a note to remind the local office to release it tomorrow.
