We went to the ssa office today and spoke to a very nice lady there. She told us again that the backpay is at the processing center but the SSI part of the process is being hold up for them to verify if he qualifies for SSI. He qualified for SSI but we declined the SSI Why? Because if he had accepted SSI it would have slowed the process of him receiving his back pay... up to 6 months. She also explained to him that if he accepted SSI they would have to recalculate the amount of his SSDI back pay because any money that was paid out for SSI would have to be paid back from his SSDI back pay...So in him declining the SSI, his SSDI back pay will process faster and be untouched. She told him that it takes up to 30 days with process center to receive his back pay but hopefully it will be much.
She explained that his medicare is effective the first of this month (June) and his Medicare part A is free ( for hospital visits) and Medicare part B is $99.90 (for doctor visits) and prescription drugs has a co pay but she also said that once he gets his medicare id info he can apply online for QMB and it will pay for his medicare part B and his co payment for his presciption drugs and doctor visits...so they will be free...yayyyyy!!!
She also said that he can come in or call the local office and get a copy of the medicare card...
