| Re: What about Stroke Survivors?
Unfortunately Strokes are NOT on the list of Compassionate Allowances. The reason is because people have different levels of strokes. Some people have strokes and become paralyzed, while others have mild strokes and they are able to return to their normal lives very shortly afterwards. Because of the wide range, they can't just list "Strokes" as a Compassionate Allowance. SSDI will look to see how the stroke has affected your life and how it affects your ability to work. I hate to say this, but my own mother had several strokes, diabetes, and several other medical conditions, and was denied up to the hearing stage where she was finally approved. So strokes are not an automatic approval. Your age is what will help you though. Being age 62 may very well help you to get an approval right away. I hope so! My fingers are crossed for you! Please keep us updated!!!
