What about Stroke Survivors?

Are there many stroke survivors who have been denied SSDI or SSI the first time?

For me it has been a year since my strokes plus I have diabetes. My initial online application for disability was on June 8. Since then I talked to SSA and was told that I qualify for SSDI and what my monthly amount would be. They immediately sent my application to DDS. DDS within 2 days sent me a work history which I returned. The current DDS status is that they are checking medical, where their office is in the same city I was treated at for 30 days.
I heard there was a fast track on strokes but not a clue if its true.

Personally I can't see how I can be denied but I'm sure I'm in for a bunch of surprises. Anybody know what I'm in for? By reading this board it sure seems like we have a broken system in the SSA. I'm 62 now.

Thank you for all responses!

You dont need to be denied twice, or even once. I found a few that would take you before any denials, but most just wait for your first. i got my lawyer the same day I got my initial denial letter.

Re: What about Stroke Survivors?

Unfortunately Strokes are NOT on the list of Compassionate Allowances. The reason is because people have different levels of strokes. Some people have strokes and become paralyzed, while others have mild strokes and they are able to return to their normal lives very shortly afterwards. Because of the wide range, they can't just list "Strokes" as a Compassionate Allowance. SSDI will look to see how the stroke has affected your life and how it affects your ability to work. I hate to say this, but my own mother had several strokes, diabetes, and several other medical conditions, and was denied up to the hearing stage where she was finally approved. So strokes are not an automatic approval. Your age is what will help you though. Being age 62 may very well help you to get an approval right away. I hope so! My fingers are crossed for you! Please keep us updated!!!
