I am a recipient of SSD. I successfully qualified for SSD in 2009. I am 52, widowed, and disabled (deaf). I collect benefits based on both my own earnings record and on my late husband's earnings record.

I was informed that I am allowed to earn from working up to but no more than $720 per month while collecting SSD and that will not jeopardize my SSD. This is NOT the Ticket To Work program. I live overseas so Ticket To Work cannot work here.

However, I also understand that there is something called Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) and that amount currently is $1010 per month.

Which number correctly represents the amount I am allowed/entitled to earn from working while collecting SSD?

The $720 amount is the amount that is used to determine if you have used up one of your trial work period months. If you have earnings of $720 a month for 9 months in a 60 month period you then they look at the substantial and gainful employment activity which is the $1010 you talk about. Goggle the web site new york makes work pay and go to the resources page and read, read, read. This website does the best job I have found of explaining how it all works and fits together. Yes some of it only applies to the state of new york but it makes it very clear if it is for new york only.
