Problem with hospital payment/insurance.
In 2000, I was in the mental health floor of a hospital because of depression reasons. I was told at that time that the insurance I was on then, would cover my hospital costs. Any amount that was left over, would be written off by the hospital, and accepted as payment. In 2001, I started getting letters from the hospital stating that I owed over $1,700 in bills. I kept writing the hospital back and calling them, and explaining things and telling them that I ddin't owe any money. So eventually, the hospital got a credit agency involved. The credit agency kept sending me letters, and I told them the same thing that I told the hospital. After some time, there were periods of time when the credit agency stopped bothering me.
Recently, the credit agency started bothering me again. They told me that if I don't pay the money, that they would try and get my credit involved, meaning they would try and ruin my good correct. I called the credit agency and they said I would need to get a copy of the paperwork from the hospital: that says what was stated about my insurance at the time, covering the costs, and writing off any amount that was left over. I've tried calling the hospital again, and I keep getting referred to another person, and it's like a wild goose chase. One of the person's told me that it's out of the hospital's hands, and that it's through the credit agency now. So I don't know how I'm going to get this thing resolved? I feel like just telling the credit agency to stop bothering me, and not to write me or call me anymore. I don't see why they would wait 5 years to try and ruin my credit? Plus, I don't even owe any of this money. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks.
