Med Lab Tech vs. Surgical Tech

I'm going back to school to get another degree and I can't decide between the medical laboratory program or the surgical tech program. I've read a lot of information on the internet about both careers but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience. Any pros and cons, advice, warnings, ect? Any information at all is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Med Lab Tech vs. Surgical Tech

I can tell you that being a surgical tech is an awsome career. Very interesting, and even though you may do the same procedure several times in one day, they are all different. You also have the benefit of being able to work in different specialties which keeps things from feeling so stagnant. I have left that field and now own a business with my hubby, but I miss it terribly....

There are many hospitals that are moving away from using surgical techs and are starting to hire scrub nurses, but many still do use techs. One more thing, being a surgical tech opens the door to further education such as moving on to become a licensed "First Assistant".

Good luck with which ever path you choose.
