Wink Chiropractors

I'm just curious... What are your ideas about chiropractors and why? Do you like them? Have you even been to one? Did you ask questions and were you satisfied with the answers? Did they explain their theory on how it works? Do you presently attend a chiropractor? Do you believe chiropractic is short-term or long-term and why? What do you think the reason chiropractic works(or doesn't work)?

I guess I will get the ball rolling... I am all for chiropractors. I have seen over 10 different chiropractors, and only 2 were suited for me. I prefer the preventative type of treatment over the reactive treatment. I go once a week or every other week. It costs ~$80 a month if I go weekly. Plus my health-care program pays for some of that.

The reason I like the chiropractor I am with is because he explains to me about his theories and how chiropractic allows my body to heal myself, and maintain health. By keeping my spine properly aligned my nerves are free to operate. If I am "out" my nerves may be restricted or pinched, and depending on where in the spine they are located it can affect various bodily functions.

I was getting routine bladder infections. The doctor kept giving me more and more anti-biotics. A couple of months later I started seeing this new chiropractor (for headaches) who explained to me that by adjusting by mid-lower back he can alleviate the bladder infections. Of course I was pessimistic about his claims, but it was true. My bladder infections went away.

Unfortunately with my migraine headaches, there is only so much that chiropractic alone will help. I also have to eat properly, excercise more often, avoid alcohol and smoking. But in my overall health, I think that chiropractic is essential.

I've been going to chiropractors for quite a few years now. Like you, I've had several of them since I've moved frequently in my life, but I happen to like four that I can think of. I used to suffer since childhood from a rare type of migraine that leaves my head and face swollen the next day. I went to many medical doctors and they did help some, but the headaches really got worse as I got older. It got to the point where when I had one coming on that I'd have to have one of my parents inject me with the medication to try and stop it. I got really sick of it. One of my doctors eventually recommended to my parents that I go see a chiropractor that he knew and we ultimately did. I can't remember how many times I had to go, but my headaches went away and are a thing of the past now. Ever since then I've gone for care regularly at least once per month. I think I've had two or three of these headaches since then and it's been probably 15 years.
I feel the same way about preventative care, and I can pretty much tell when I need to be cracked. I don't like when some chiropractors say to me "you'll need such and such dollars worth of care". If they do that I usually just politely thank them and go to someone else. Not all of them are like that from what I've seen but some of them are.

I guess I can thank both chiropractic and medicine. One for fixing the problem and the other for making the recommendation. Just like there are really good medical doctors out there, there are really good chiropractors too. Maybe I've just been lucky though.
