The only volunteers I've ever encountered in O.R. waiting areas were quite senior in age and in volunteer hospital experience. [Usually the hospital's Ladies Auxilliary.]
Even so, their primary duties mostly involved greeting the patient's family, making coffee, restocking cookies, taking calls from O.R. rooms if surgery times differed from expected, etc. Basically, the job is to keep the families comforted and comfortable and to provide a communication link. |
