on earth whould a psychiatrist's office tell me I couldn't get an appointment as a new patient until sept 26....a month from now!? If any of you are professional psychiatrists please tell me why at 32 yrs of age and asking for help for the first time in my life in a crisis situation anyone would be told they have to wait a freaking month? I've thrown up for a weak and a half. I can't wait a month. I've lost 8lbs already. What kind of heartless ***** would tell someone something like that? Mind you I never told the office staff that I'd been throwing up but I did have to tell a perfect stranger that my husband of 12 years was screwing around and that he had taken aweful notes about strange things and that in a matter of two days my world had ended and I wanted open a can of whup butt on someone. I already had to tell a strange GP the story because I wa sso ill (my regular doc was on maternity leave) and this was insulting and degrading enough without having to explain it to half of my community.

I'm sorry you're going through so much right now and that you weren't able to get an appt with a therapist right away. If you call them back, you need to let them know that you are in distress or if you call a different one you need to let them know.

The problem is that most therapist have patients who see them on a regular basis--weekly or sometimes more often. That is why there is a wait. It's not like your regular doctor office appts. That may be the first available appt because of current patients who are just as important as you are or he/she may be going out of town which would also account for the delay in gettin an appointment.

Please hang in there and just call around until you can get into see someone right away!

i hope you found a psychiatrist, i am looking for one myself. they say it is tough to find the right one to open up to, some are real strange i hear and could make things worse. i survive a near death situation and i have a hard time dealing with it. good luck rob

Sorry about your situation. Hadn't seen you post before. The other thing is that August is a popular month for vacations. I know some who will stop seeing new clients a couple of weeks before they are about to leave because there is no point in seeing someone once and then taking off.
