Re: Im too skinny!

I was very skinny at that age too and decided to go to the gym and do weight training (body building) I gained 25 pounds (in all the right places) and I did not even drank any protein shakes. If you do body building routines you will gain pounds, if you dont then you are not doing it correctly. If you keep increasing the weight you lift your muscle HAS to expand. I have to say I was very disciplined and I went like 4 times a week to the gym. Your mind has to be concentrated, where your mind goes your body goes. No pain no gain. For increasing weight is low repetions sets with the heaviest weight possible. You are supposed to be increasing 3-5 pounds each week.
That was what helped me.

Re: Im too skinny!

I have to say that at your age, lifting weights is not the best idea because your bones are still growing and your bone plates have not fused yet.
Just stay active as a boy your age should, and start lifting in a couple years. Try to sneak in calories where you can. This sounds weird, but look up nutrition tips for cancer patients. Cancer patients can't eat much and are at high risk for being malnourished, so extra calories, fat, and protein are squeezed into their diets in every imaginable way to achieve the same goal you're after: to gain weight!
Try drinking carnation instant breakfasts or slim fast shakes in-between meals. Each has 250 calories...so just 2 a day give you an extra 500 calories. Also add cheese to sandwiches for fat and protein, you get the idea...

Re: Im too skinny!

You can eat more to gain weight, but then you might just end up adding fat. What you really need is exercise to gain some muscle, not to mention you will feel better about yourself and will be healthier. Heavy weight training might not be good at your age, but you can probably do a little bit, ask your gym teacher how much is safe and get some advice on how to lift weights properly. Other than that, just join whatever sports interests you. If you're not into team sports, there are many solo sports you can do.

Re: Im too skinny!

You can do some weight training, try to focus on some of the most basic exercises. Don't train with too much weight, consider weight training as something supplementing other sports like basketball. In this way, you can get an introduction to the gym's world, and in a few years, you can start training really seriously.

Your diet is also very important. What I would recommend if you have problems with eating a lot is, first, do some sport on a regular basis, and second, try to develop good eating habits. Get rid of all junks, and emphasize quality food. Chicken, turkey, lean beef, fish, rice, grains, potato, vegetables, and fruits. Try to eat 6-8 times a day but smaller portions. In this way you can get used to eating regularly, and later when you are more active in sports, you can just increase your meal portions.

And don't forget: regular sport + proper nutrition help you gain quality muscles!
