Unhappy Splenda.....

Is it ok to use?? I've heard so many different things concerning it....it's ok to use or you shouldn't use it at all because it's really bad for you....which is it??? I use it in my green tea and in my cereal is that ok? I'm just getting so sick of hearing everything that is supposedly good or bad for you, like this whole wheat thing now with the gluten...I mean what are we supposed to eat? People can't live on fruits and veggies alone and nothing else but that's what it seems like it's coming down to, that those are the only things that are considered "healthy". Ugh....I'm just trying to be healthy but I can't give up enjoying food, ya know?

Haha, believe me I know how you feel. First off, I do know that humans have to consume LARGE amounts of these sweetners to get a serious effect like cancer etc. But, some people are very sensitive to these sweetners and some aren't. I'm trying to quit the splenda but I did put one pack in my coffee this morning cause it's so easy and accessable(right in front of me) etc. About the wheat, I've read that many people could be sensitive to wheat and not even know it. If you don't suffer from any kinds of uncomfortable symptoms then I would say that wheat in it's WHOLE form(not processed) in moderate amounts is actually healthy unless, like I said, unless you have an allergy. There are many B vitamins in "whole grain" products. If you can, go with spelt, kamut, oatmeal, brown rice, quiona, or at a regular grocery, maybe choose rye if it worries you. I buy this oatmeal bread made by Nickel's. And I KNOW it does seem like it's all coming down to fruits and veggies but look at what would happen if we just ate plants without animal products, and whole grains. We would suffer from major neurological problems since WE DO need the all of the essential amino acids that can only be found in animal food. And our thyroid would DEFINITELY suffer if we ate soy as our primary protein source. Even soy doesn't have ALL of the vital amino acids. Choosing lean cuts of meat and eating them in moderation(this is my opinon) is your best bet and staying away from all those fatty meats(preferably organic if you can swing it, although it can be hard all the time). And milk is another major concern for people because supposively, humans do not need milk beyond infancy but milk DOES contain all of the amino acids, b vits, phosphorus, and other good vitamins we need.(preferably, NO doubt, organic milk I mean). ANd there is some articles pertaining to how in the U.S we drink the most milk but yet have the highest rate of osteoperosis, BUT, magnesium is required (which is obtained by eating lots of seeds, nuts, whole grains and veggies, especially greens) in order for calcium to be assimilated properly. So obviously, these people aren't eating healty, and probably are sedentary. And soy is another one(which I'm choosing to avoid by the way). So, it's all about how you feel I guess when pertaining to our food pyramid. If you suffer from symptoms, then eliminate dairy first(it's I think the number one allergy), then I would try gluten. Not everybody is allergic to these things and if your not, then in my opinion it's just fine. I mean, some people are allergic to nuts! Those are VERY healthy!! I do believe in primarily a plant based, whole grain diet, with the RDA amount of protein which is 1g per kg of body weight. And about the splenda, I don't know. I guess a little aint gonna hurt but who knows!
Oh, and on my "non-meat" days I like to supplement my protein with Whey which has lots of benefits.

Re: Splenda.....

listen to Jessicca.. she knows .. oh and, about the gluten..personally I think its not that good for you, especially the white breads..but, like jess said there are more friendly glutens found in Spelt, Kamut, Rye..etc..try those.
