I have, for a couple of years, had mild drainage from my ears, especially at night. Have also had sinus problems and a persistent cough. Recently started using Rhinocort Aqua which seems to be helping the sinus problems and the cough but not the ear drainage. The only thing to ever help that was a course of prednisone I was on once.

Anyway, here's my question ... over the past couple of months, I have noticed increasingly a ringing in my left ear. Had a sinus infection which led to that ear also plugging up gradually and then completely. Left ear is now plugged all the time and I have pretty doggone loud tinnitus most of the time as well as significant hearing loss in that ear. The right ear also seems a bit plugged but no tinnitus in it.

(I did take avelox for the sinus infection but the ear stayed plugged and the tinnitus persisted.)

The ENT says my Eustachian Tube in left ear is plugged and I am scheduled to have myringotomy and a tube put in the ear next week.

I am concerned in that, from most things I read, tinnitus does not go along with plugged Eustachian tube.

Can anyone shed any light on this and confirm that the planned treatment sounds reasonable.

I am sure my ENT is doing the right thing. He is a very smart guy but I am concerned over whether the ringing will go away once the tube is in place.
