Stapedectomy-post op experiences (frequency loss)? - Hearing Disorders Message Board

Hi-I had the packing removed yesterday after a Stapedectomy on my left ear ten days ago.
I have very similar experiences to many people-incredibly increased hearing capabilities but with echoey unnatural sounding edge.
I also know patience is required and over time hopefully things will knit together and my hearing will return to normal.

However I have a slightly different question from those I've seen posted.Whilst listening to my hi-fi yesterday (I have a high end set up) and from that checking with heading phones it is quite clear that my operated ear is completely missing certain frequences (these were there before but obviously impared at the 40% loss I had).It is quite a surreal experience (the track Radiohead's Street Spirit has an acoustic guitar and a triangle/bell chime which my ear just doesn't detect).At this stage the right ear struggles with these sounds due to the left ear being so overpowering.
I was just wondering if frequency loss can happen but return during the period that the inner ear heals?

Does anyone have any experience of frequency loss post Stapedecomy?
Any input or responses warmly welcomed.

It may be sad to reply to your own post but others may find it at a later date and need info.
A Web search yesterday revealed that high frequency loss is pretty common after a Stapedectomy and the good news is in the vast majority of cases it returns to normal as the inner ear heals,there a number of theories why this happens but no definitive answer.

That might explain why it took me a month to get my very high frequency tinnitus back after stapedectomy, a VERY unhappy outcome.
All was GREAT the first month with perfect hearing and no screech but alas, not to last. The hearing remaiins great but the serenading siren is again blowing full force.
Oh heck, no sense compainiing; it's orders of magnitude better than DEAFNESS AND TINNITUS!
