Just to second what lib has said, generally speaking, thumping and fluttering and vibration type sensations and sounds in the ears can be muscular in nature, as can fullness in the ears. Your dentist may well be on to something regarding your jaw. He probably explained but the jaw is connected to the ears through a complex system of muscles and nerves. Particularly if you clench or grind your teeth you are prone to a disorder called tempero mandibular joint disorder that can present as only ear symptoms. Muscle relaxants may well help - valium in small doses can also help. It is important to try not to stress too much about this as stress will cause the muscles to spasm even worse. As lib said, try looking up myoclonus, or tensor tympami syndrome, or tensor velor palatini - the last two are the names of the muscles that can be involved.

I went through hell with these sort of symptoms, they came on when I developed an inner ear disorder. Another thing that can feasibly cause this type of upset are atypical forms of migraine. There is also a condition called menieres disease that can sometimes present without dizziness initially - this causes full ears, but it's very rare and it's more likely to be something else.

It's really a question of keeping on searching and finding the right doc. The top of the tree when it comes to the ear are doctors called neurotologists. They generally specialise in dizziness, but they had to train as ENTs first and tend to know a heck of a lot about the ear. If you're having no luck elsewhere you could try one of those. Follow your dentists instructions and check out info on tmjd. It could definitely all be caused by that.

If it's any consolation my ears were awful, full, vibrating etc... I am now much, much better with the help of splint therapy (I have tmjd also) and time.
