dizziness and ears - Hearing Disorders Message Board

I have had dizziness for months recently. It does tend to come and go but it is a general unsteady swimming sensation. Occasionally I will have a split second where everything will tilt to the left. This dizziness has caused me major anxiety and panic disorder. I am currently taking xanax for it and am doing much better but still have this unexplained dizziness. I feel like I am walking on a water bed all day. I have had a hearing test and an ENG done - all normal. I have also had an MRI without contrast that came up normal. Has anyone had all these tests come up normal but still suffer from dizziness caused by the ear? I also suffer from tinnitus which will get worse at times and be better at other times.

Any thoughts? I am currently still going to different docs about what could be causing it- its just weird that my ears have been ringing ever since I was a kid and when I was a kid I also suffered from dizzy spells.

Sorry for this being so long- I am getting very frustrated.

I have had these same symptoms for a couple years now, my ENT ran some test and it came back as Meniere's Disease. It's caused by a fluid buildup in the inner ear and as a result nerves are damaged. I have tinnitus all of the time, have lost hearing of about 30% of upper range sounds, I have spells of dizziness that last from a few minutes to a few hours. It's very scary sometimes, especially when it happens while driving. There's no cure for meniere's, but the symptoms can be treated marginally. I would go back to the doc and get him to rum some more tests, or try a different doctor completely.
