I have never posted on this particular board before but I do have a related issue so I figured I could go ahead and talk about my situation hear to get some help and maybe some advice. There is this girl that I think is beautiful but I don't know how to approach because she has a hearing aid. I'm a little nervous about approaching her because I really don't know how severe her condition is and I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable or make the situation awkward if just up and talk to her out of the blue and she can't hear me. I have had been around people that have had hearing problems in the past but that was when I was younger. Now that I'm in college, I haven't had a conversation with a hearing impaired person in years. I really want to make the best impression and come off as nice as possible. I have been watching her for awhile because I see her a lot on campus. She has a person that walks around with her that does sign language. I don't know if i should introduce myself to her and let her help me or what. I just want things to go smooth. I want her to feel comfortable. Any suggestions on how I can just start a conversation with her without her having problems knowing what I am saying? She seems like she's a nice girl and I just want to meet her and tell her that I think she's very beautiful. Maybe then see where things go from there. I just need to get the conversation started though. Can anybody help me please?
I know that I'm probably making this out to be worst than it has to be but really want someone who has experience with this type of situation to give me some advice.
Approach this young lady from the front. Be sure she can see your lips, she may read lips also. Talk in a normal voice, try to enunciate your words in your best manner. It won't take long to find out if you can communicate or not. If not, learn ASL.
First, let me tell you that I appreciate you for responding omurray.
What you wrote in your post, I will try. I really like this girl from afar. I would really like to get to no her better. I hope she can understand me verbally. I don't know sign language extensively but I do know the Alphabet signing. I used to be very interested in signing when I was younger.
