Diagnosis? Ear Popping and Static

For the last three years, I've had a problem with my left ear popping and crackling that's gotten worse in the last couple of months; my right ear seems normal. As far as I can tell I haven't experienced any hearing loss and have no vertigo problems.

I can't predict when I'll hear static or the ear will pop--it doesn't correspond to noise levels at all. I've noticed the problem when talking to people in regular-volume conversations, playing a grand piano, and when a woman earlier today was shaking a tambourine; these are not the only times, but they come to mind as recent examples. Perhaps it has something to do with hearing certain frequencies? Sometimes it happens when I'm lying down, sometimes standing up or sitting down.

Any information and help you could give me would be highly appreciated--I haven't had health insurance since 2003 so I've tried to avoid seeing a doctor, but I'm worried that this is a problem that might cause hearing loss down the line, which is an issue since I'm a musician.

middle ear myoclonus, tensor tympani syndrome, stapedialmyoclonus....these are the things you can look up, it can present itself in many ways.....popping and static are very common from this spasm.....

That would clean out any deep seated hardened ear wax! I am not saying that that is what is your problem, but sometimes we can't always clean our ears properly and a build up can form.

I mentioned this, as a few years ago I kept getting popping and cracking in my ears and head, and once syringed it went.

Hope that has helped
