MYRINGOTOMY(Hole in Ear Drum) - Hearing Disorders Message Board

HI all,

Just a little backround info:
I have had clogged ears feeling and pressure inside ears for about a month and been to numerous doctors, none seeing anything worng that they could explain, including my EsTube working fine. So as a last resort we were gonna try tubes but first they did a myringotomy (a hole in the ear drum to see if it would relieve the clog/pressure. It really didnt do much, but now I have a feeling of hearing my own voice like in my head out of that ear, and BASS is real noticable in everything. My question is that normal when there is a hole in your ear drum, and will those symptoms die down when the drum closes? The only positive is, normally when i would hold me nose and blow I couldnt pop anything and it seemed to be filling up with pressure/air, but since the operation yesterday, I can blow and I can feel the air go through the ear drum, and out my canal, without building up in the ear, but it still feels like its clogged maybe inside the INNER ear if thats possible? And ideas would be appreciated.

Hi, I am going through a very similar situation and my ENT called today and thinks he knows what the problem is. PET - Patulous Eustachian Tubes which are ETs that remain open all the time instead of closing and opening. It causes the autophony you are experiencing ie: hearing your own voice, sounds like a box over your head etc. I had tubes put in my ears and the whole situation got worse. I am getting the tubes removed next week. Good Luck!
