Newbie here- P.E.T has ruined my life

I sure am glad to have found this board. For the last six months I have been having some horrible problems with my left ear. It comes and goes but now its to the point that it lasts longer. After reading a lot of posts on this board about patulous eustachian tube dysfunction I realized that my symptoms were that of this dysfunction. To make a long story short I went to the doctor the other day to find out my worst nightmare has come true. He told me that I have P.E.T and the only cure for me was to get used to it. How am I supposed to get used to it. The people on here who have P.E.T know what I am going through. For the the worst part is I freak myself out when I start hearing myself breath and when my ear gets all clogged that it has gotten to the point where I now have panic attacks when this occurs making everything else worse. I told my ent about this and he told me Im just going to have to learn to deal with it like its apart of me now. I dont want to deal with it. Theres only so much I can take. Im on the verge of just giving up. Its such a horrible feeling the worst part of this all is I have a job in customer service so im always dealing with the public and when my p.e.t occurs I have walk away from a customer cause I cant handle it. This thing is completely ruining my life. ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE have panic attacks because of this? If so any advice on what to do?

Re: Newbie here- P.E.T has ruined my life

Hi JC07,
All of us sympathize with you!! PET is a life changing disorder. Have it myself since 4 years now..I know what you're going through. Well, there are a lot of posts discussing this problem. You could go through them. And as Lib, mentioned, Dr.Poe in Boston is THE man who can cure this.
May I ask how you got PET?? As it has only been six months. Did you lose weight or did something happen to you??
Take Care and dont give up.

Dear JC07.

You can bet: a PET attack can lead to a panic attack, because PET is a pesty disease.

The good news here is that YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY stop PET from taking over your life.... at least, you may get partially used to that symptoms, so that a panic attack does not occur each time you have autophony.

Of course, you had to autodiagnose PET, since ENT's tend to misdiagnose it.

And there is another good news: there are tretments for PET!!!

We all are talking about that on another thread here on www.healthboards.com:

http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=475298&page=31

There are some interesting pages on this thread and more than one person that have recently been operated or are going to be operated shortly.

Join us..... you'll find relief sharing with us, trust me.

Bye

Remmy.

Hey Kunal

I got PET because of all the weight I lost. Who knew doing something good for yourself would have a nasty side effect. I had lost about 70 pounds within a year. To think I had no idea my weight was affecting my ear until the ENT told me. That was the first thing he said to me, he was like it happens to people who lose a lot of weight. Then hes like well take the good with the bad. Honestly if i knew this would happen to me. I would so choose being overweight as oppose to having a screwed up hearing dysfunction. Im thankful there are others out there who have P.E.T but its the worst feeling in the world when a doctor tells u theres no cure and that you will just have to learn to live with it.
