Tinnitus and eustachian problems? - Hearing Disorders Message Board

Hi there,

I wonder if someone could give me some advice please,
a couple of months ago I started getting tinnitus in my right ear, a hissing sound noticable at night, went to the doctor he told me to go away and play some music etc. But it got louder, I could hear it during the day with a slight ring, also on the left side with some fullness/ache. My nose was congested in the mornings and I developed a 'blocked' feeling all day.
Eventually managed to see an ENT doctor, who said I have slight sensorneural deafness which I was 'probably' born with and some inflammation of the nasal passages which will interfere with the tubes giving full/ache, (my eardrums were retracted inwards)
but she said this wouldn't cause the tinnitus, probably allergic to dustmites, try these nose drops(vaso constrictors, ephedrine) and come back in a month.
Well the tinnitus is still there, louder hissing/ringing, worse lying down?, I am chewing, swallowing trying to get the tubes to work normally, but not much luck.
I'm blowing some air in to my middle-ear occasionally, but it's not helping with the noise. The drops made my noise bleed a bit when blowing it first thing in the morning.not much help.
I'm rambling now, what I would like advice on is:
what sort of tinnitus does eustachian blockage cause? I'm really hoping that sorting them out will alleviate the ringing.
and any advice on allegies.

I have a similar problem as you. When I went to the doctor my right eardrum is retracted as well. My doctor told me that I has ETD and gave me a nose spray. I have a rushing sound when I bend over or move my head a certain direction. It is only on my right ear. I have been experiencing this for the past 4 months and it is not getting any better. I have constant fullness in my right ear etc., etc. I think that my problems have to do with TMJ. I had braces on and when they came off that is when all of my problems started.

My tinnitus varies too when i bend over etc, I visited an old church today which should have been very quiet, but as i was walking around, the slight, high pitched, ring/hiss spoilt it!
Never mind, whilst waiting for my next doctors appt(more drops?) I've visited a Chinese herbalist and started taking some horrible tasting stuff plus a course of acupuncture. I'll try some complementary allergy testing as well and see what it comes up with.

You mentioned TMJ problems, my right TM joint is sore to touch, more complications!

Hi All,

About 7 weeks ago, I awoke with a high pitch in my right ear. I've gone to ENT dr. whom looked at me as to say; so what you have ringing in your ear. you have wax built-up, allergies,sinus and tmjd. He prescribed Allergra and decongestion medication. I have uncontrolled high blood pressure and heart disease. I can not take antihistamines. (Im not a great speller). Now it's high pitch, hissing, and as someone else on this board stated " at times it sound like a thousand crickets."
If anyone else has high blood pressure and or heart disease, what has your Dr. recommended?. I have lost 22 lbs. and dont know how much more I can take.
