Crackling, Fizzing sound in Left Ear - Hearing Disorders Message Board

3 Days ago I randomly developed a Crackling/Fizzing Sound in my left ear. It will stop for a minute or so, and then start back up for 5 minutes basically non stop over the last 3 days. It sounds like the fizz coming off a glass of pop. After paying attention to it, I can almost feel it and I think it has something to do with liquid in my inner ear.

I have not found a solution to this problem. I have found multiple posts by people who claim to have this problem last for over a year. If there is anyone out there who can diagnose this problem and provide direction for treatment, that would be very appreciated.

I started "fizzing" after the installation of carpet. I've been to five doctors with no results. It continues 24/7 and is really getting on my nerves. Some doctors suggested it's fluid in the eustacian tubes, one doctor at the U of Michigan Hospital said it could be a bone in the head, one doctor said my tempanic membrane was locked, one said it wasn't.

It's really frustrating to get five different answers from five different doctors.

I am now going to an allergist who seems to CARE and said he'll treat it as an allergy but it's a slow step....one at a time and thinks he can "fix" it. We'll see.

He's the only doctor who has given me hope!!

This is driving me totally insane. I can't sleep at night. I have two fans in the room blaring, but doesn't help.

I experience the exact same thing, and have no idea - whatsoever, what it is, either. It is not frequent, and usually is most noticeable when I first wake up in the morning or if I awake in the middle of the night. I do have TMJ, and question whether or not this has something to do with movement of my jaw. My recent physical two weeks ago revealed no issues.

Although this is more of a nuisance than anything else, I would still like to know what is prompting this bizarre phenomena.
