My otologist gave me a card to carry in my wallet - it says I have an "MRI compatible implant."
Is yours titanium? I have heard that is ok for MRIs. I wonder if the "ear implants" they were talking about were cochlear implants? You might ask your surgeon... he only gave me the card after the 2nd surgery.
I understand how hard that must have been. My husband had to have an MRI once and I sat in the room with him. It was very boring, since he couldn't talk and I had to take my hearing aids out anyway. But it made him feel better that I was there with him. I can't imagine a child having to lay in there alone! My youngest had a CT when she was 10mo, and that was awful. They at least let her hold her bunny. (She was fine, by the way...how is your son? Nothing serious, I hope!)
