Which Ear plugs for preventing further hearing loss? - Hearing Disorders Message Board

Having had tinnitus for a full year now i'm beginning to notice hearing loss in both ears and the tinnitus is getting worse. I don't want to stop going to sporting events (i give up concerts a long time ago) and i'm looking for the best ear plugs for someone with the beginning of hearing loss rather than someone who is looking to prevent damage in the first place. I recently worked in a factory and operated heavy noisy machinery, the company had someone come in and fit us for custom ear plugs which we were required to wear all shift long.
Maybe visit a hearing clinic and see what they reccomend? In the mean time got to the drugstore and check the earplugs they have there and choose one with the highest Db (decibel) it should be on the package. Also make sure you insert them properly to get a snug fit.
As far as i am aware you will want to prevent any more damage so the earplugs that block the most noise is probably the best.
I would check with your ear dr if you have one because you will need to take good care of your ears from here on

Hi Jon....I have 2 children, 1 that has hearing loss, and I was able to take my kids to our local Miracle Ear and have custom ear plugs made for them. They charged me as if I was having new molds made for my daughters hearing aids (which was about 100 bucks for a set of ear molds) but they are much better than anything you can buy in the store since they are custom made to fit your ear. If you don't have a Miracle Ear by you, just look into any place that you can get hearing aids from. Chances are if you can buy them there, they also made the molds there. Take care and good luck.
