Hi everyone,

I had my surgery 1+ years ago. It was really great to feel like I am complete again. Didn't have to ask people to repeat or turn my good ear toward people to hear them.

Unfortunately after a while(~4-5 months) I lost my hearing again. Now I am afraid to go through another surgery and it feels like my hearing is worst than preop. Meetings, social gatherings are very hard for me to attend.Well I do attend but don't enjoy them as much.And I feel like specially in the meetings people get frustrated because they are asked to repeat what they are saying.
I want to be able to hear my son if he needs me in the middle of the night as well. Thanks god I have one ear(with little hearing loss) but if I am sleeping on my good ear, I cannot hear what is going on in the house. I want to be able to attend him when he needs me. I am going to stop my wish list and come to the point:

Anyone experience hearing loss after their first surgery and what options were seeked? Recomendations for Doctors in Maryland area?

I had surgery five months ago and good results, but now hearing isn't so good..I'm sorry I don't have advice but I really sympathize, I don't understand what's going on with my ears either...

Anyway I hope you find some answers & I wish you very best of luck. I also would like to hear my children at night, sometimes when they come in our room (because of bad dream or whatever) it scares me out of my wits as I don't hear them coming!! and it's a little startling for them too as I jump up suddenly out of a sound sleep!

Anyway all I am doing, is trying to be patient and listen to my ENT who says it can take a while for the hearing to stabilize. I have fingers crossed for that...and for you too. I'm not in your area so can't recommend any doctors though.

I am waiting for answer as if you can redo the surgery i too have had the surgery done on both ears 12 years ago

Hi there- I had the same experience as you. My prosthesis did slip. I had the stapedectomy redone last month (revision). I've had good results so far. I would encourage you to look into ding it again. You'll probably be referred to get a ct scan first to confirm if it slipped. I would encourage you to seek the best possible surgeon you can find.

In my case, the incus factured and the prosthesis slipped off. this time the surgeon carved notches in the incus and attached the prosthesis that way.

I waited three years in between surgeries and I really regret those three years of not hearing! Don't let fear hod you back- go see a specialist!

Hello Shad,
Did you get your revision surgery done ? I hope everything is working well for you.
I'm in the Maryland area too ! I got my surgery done on Sept 10th and its been 22 days post-op and I don't see any improvement in my hearing. I got a hearing test done today and my hearing is more or less at the same levels as pre-op. My doc asked me to wait and get a hearing test done after a month and if the hearing still doesn't improve..then he said I should get a CT scan done to check if the prosthesis has moved or not !?
If you got your revision surgery done and if it is successful do you mind telling me the doctor you went to ? I just want to go to a good doc or at least get a second opinion if I know after a month that this surgery didn't work..
