Attempting to unpop my ears, now cannot hear very well in right ear

So here's the situation: I was attempting to unpop my ears by holding my nostrils shut and blowing out through my nose. After I did this, I noticed a loss in hearing. While this faded in my left ear (and therefore will almost definitely fade in my right) I cannot tell, as I think while my ears were "incapacitated", wax decided it would be prudent to block my ear canal. Anyway, I would like to know the cause of my ear pressure predicament. And any tips for removing wax would be nice as well.
