| Stapedectomy Fears
I am 29 and I have profound loss due to Otosclerosis. I have been functioning with my hearing aids since I was 20. I am now having a lot of trouble hearing (with the aids). The doctor suggested trying the Stapedectomy. I question if it is right for me. My loss is very far gone and the doctor says I could come up to a moderate or severe loss. I would still need to wear the hearing aid. I was also told recovery would be brief and I could go back to work on Monday if I have the surgery on Wednesday. I have read so many postings on here and it seems far fetched to go back on Monday. I am a preschool teacher. I lift and bend all day. I am also exposed to crying, screaming... all the time. I am also scared that it will cause pain to wear the hearing aid after the surgery. I have been getting by this long, is his surgery worth it? If my loss is so progressed, will this surgery give me any improvment?
