Question distorted sounds & sensitivity post stapedectomy
Today I am 13 days post left stapedectomy. I will have the packing removed in 8 days & am hearing through the packing. The sounds are so loud & the pitch is very distorted. I'm walking around with one finger plugging my ear as to protect it. If someone puts a plate down on the counter it sounds like it were just dropped from a high level & allowed to break on tile. Also low sounds that I couldnt hear before are intensified & voices can hurt my ear if too loud.. I'm very happy that my hearing is returning but the sensitivity im experiencing makes it hard for me to go anywhere as public places are EAR PIERCING! Has anyone experienced this as I have? Is there a time frame where you should stay away from noisy places. I went to my childs highschool volleyball game tonight & it was so loud I was uncomfortable the whole time. I don't remember reading this as a potential post op complication.

I'm at 32 days, had the same symptoms as you. It's improving in small incremental doses.
After you get your packing taken out ask your surg about wearing an ear plug when around noisies (and not now before the packing is out!). I have and that's helped. However you being only 13 days out now i think you should avoid stuff like the volleyball game completely until you can make it to ear plug stage. I had the same experience walking thru a casino to the buffet. The slot machines sounded like come-to-life-Transformers-Movie-Monsters attacking me!

House of Hearing in LA says that 3-6 weeks is normal recovery and 4 months is possible.
