Tinnitus?:(

First of all hello and thank you to everyone who reads this. It started the day before yesterday. I was going to bed. I had had a nasty throat ache for a week and suddenly the pain shifted from my throat to my ear. It was horrible. I immediately took two very strong painkillers and it stopped. However, that's when the buzzing started. I saw my GP yesterday and he diagnosed me with a severe ear infection which is probably causing the ringing in my ear. It's been two days now and I'm freaking out. My dad has tinnitus and has had it for like ten years now. He got it at a rock concert. The doctor thinks the ringing will go away with my infection. (I'm currently on antibiotics) But I'm not so sure. You see I get these dizzy spells when I get off of buses our out of elevators. They don't last very long but someone said it might be connected with my inner ear. My dad learned to live with it but I'm not sure I'll be able to take it. Do you think I should wait until the end of the week for the infection to clear up or ask to see a specialist right away?
Many thanks.

Re: Tinnitus?:(

Hi, I'm experiencing exactly the same stuff as you. On anti-bs at the mo, but I've had the tinnitus for about 3years. My Dad had it too. I've recently been given a sound-box, but alas my tinnitus is louder. AND it has become musical. Yes folks,I have a musical ear? Who knew? Sadly the repertoire is sad and annoying. I don't get to pick and it's always male singing. I've had everything from Please Release Me by Englebert Humperdink to Deutschland Uber Alles. Now I do speak German but I swear that I never knew the words beyond the first line. I put my bedside light on and wrote the words down. Next day I checked and they were word-perfect! Weird or what? Has anyone else experienced this please? If so, how to turn it off? Thanks.

Re: Tinnitus?:(

I have not experienced hearing music in my ear. Have you seen a doctor about this?

Ivy, I developed tinnitus about a year and 4 months ago. At first, I thought I would never get used to it. It was all I could think about, and I heard it all day. Well, it took a few months, but now it is to the point where I have to listen out for it to hear it, I am so used to it now. It really does get better!

Re: Tinnitus?:(

has your ringing stopped. I had a myringotomy alittle over a week ago and my ear has been ringing ever since. I know the procedure caused this to happen. I'm wondering if it goes away or if I'm stuck with this. That is why I was wondering what happened with yours.

Hi ivy 2712,

Did your ringing get better? I have the same problem and it's terrible.

Re: Tinnitus?:(

I, too, thought that I would never get used to my tinnitus. It started out in just my right ear, and now I have it in both as of about a month ago. You do get used to it, although I'm sure that thought is tough to get used to. I do have my bad days/nights here and there, but for the most part I have grown used to it and don't even notice it at times. Other times I notice it so much it brings me to tears (that has only happened a small handful of times thank goodness) When I am really stressed or really tired I find my tinnitus is louder or more noticable. I hope that yours goes away, but in the meantime try to always have some kind of background noise on so you aren't sitting in quiet environments. Good luck!
