Question Tinnitus and hearing aids.

I had a stapedectomy in right ear 7 years ago. Tinnitus was present at a very loud volume immediately after the surgery. My surgeon told me that my ear was under trauma and the tinnitus may dissapate. I waited 6 months and he performed a revision. It seems as though my apparatus from the stapedectomy had shifted in my ear.THE REVISION SURGERY PROVED TO BE USELESS. I now suffer from anxiety and depression, which are side affects of tinnitus. I take ambien to sleep, fluxotine for depression and xanax for anxiety. I cannot sleep through the night because of the noise in my head. I cannot focus or concentrate. I have constant headaches, I went back to my surgeon to see if he would sign offf on disability paperwork -fmla, which would help secure my job because of more than 4 abscences in a year- and he said " let's not be in such a hurry".

6 and 1/2 years of screeching , night and day- nonstop- and he wants me to be more patient. He ordered a tinnitus screening , which he defered to an audiologist, which turned into a hearing aid sales pitch. He basically said " tinnitus is like your wedding ring, you don't remember it's there until you think about it"

So after all the ranting- I now ask my questions- does anyone have any experience similar to mine? How do you cope with the tinnitus? If anyone has had a stapedectomy and developed tinnitus, did a hearing aid help with the tinnitus. I hear good in most cases but still do better when I look at the person speaking.
I have since found out revision stapedectomies are only succesful 20% of the time. I am now in the process to file for disability as I cannot work with this debilitating noise. Any help or advice? Anyone?

Thumbs up Re: Tinnitus and hearing aids.

Hi there,
I am also an unexpected tinnitus sufferer and i can feel how disappointing is all this one word thing "tinnitus" in everyday life. I am sorry that there are hardly any answers to the cause of tinnitus just they could put biological point of view like damage in cochlear hair and all which brings no relief to us.

Tinnitum i think we got to live with this no matter why it happened , why to you or why to me, its just a part of life and i am sure that you have learned more and more these days for coping tinnitus with day to day activity from this 6 to 7 years of experience and you have my regard to know about this matter , best coping with it , what you do at your idle time specially at morning and night which is very annoying.

Further more i would also like to put my question to you, i have no idea nor any reason how i got tinnitus for so long , its been more than a month i had my ear operation (myringoplasty) for perforated ear drum which was my second time and i have had started hearing this hissing sound from second day of my operation and i still hear these annoying sound, i do not know any reason for my tinnitus as it was just consecrate to my middle ear for the surgery and i wonder how my cochlear hair got damage, its very hard to live with tinnitus as beginning which i am going through, its very hard to put how it feels in words, this crazy thing drives me crazy. i would be very graceful if you had any answer to my tinnitus and tell me the way to cope with this tinnitus. GOOD DAY !!
thank you
bhusan
