Cool Re: heart rate 100 to 105... is that bad?

Cymidai, if that is your resting pulse then I think it is too high. A few years ago my resting pulse was around 90/95 bpm and my doctor said it is too high. He put me on a beta blocker and ever since my resting pulse is around 65/70 bpm. I don't know if young people normally have a higher pulse rate? I am a senior. At first I hated that beta blocker, it made me very tired, but after a few months I adjusted to it and I'm okay now.

Yes, that certainly sounds a little on the high side. Have you done some basic blood tests to see what could be causing this? Laura is correct in saying that the older you are, generally, the slower your heart beats, but at your age, this is a tad high in my opinion. Do you have any other physical symptoms of this? For example, shortness of breath, dizziness, "faintish spells", etc? Has your doctor ruled out an overactive thyroid?

all the doctor is doing right now is checking my heart to make sure it is ok. Because i am having chest pains. I went to the store to check my heart rate and it is always 100 to 109 yet at the doctors a few days ago it was 80 .

Can the ones at the store be wrong?

The ones at the store are inaccurate a lot of the time. They don't calibrate them like they should.

Why don't you take it yourelf? You can feel your pulse at your wrist fairly easy. Have a watch handy and count for one minute, or 30 seconds and multiply by 2.

I try but i have a hard time feeling my pulse. So are the blood pressure reading false alot of the time also at the stores? or is it just the pulse rate?
