New to this board and need help :)

Hi I'm new to this board and i had a few questions i was hoping someone could help me with.

I was in a single car accident a week ago because i blacked out. I"m so glad that i didn't hurt anyone and no one else was involved. I'm so blessed that i survived with just a few cuts and bruises as it was a very serious accident and my goofy self didn't have a seatbelt on but you better believe i wear it now!

I'm not diabetic and my blood tests in the ER came back ok but the paramedic did say that he saw a PVC but didn't see another one for 15 sec after that so he thought maybe i moved but quite frankly i couldn't move because i was strapped down on a board everywhere and even if i could move i didn't want to because my back was killing me.

I've had episodes in the past that scared me but i figured that they weren't anything because nothing ever came of them so i thought it wasn't a big deal. I know it's common if you stand to quickly you get lightheaded but i can actually walk 15 ft or so before i loose my feild of vision so i just stand there for a minute till it comes back and i feel better. I have times where i can feel this thud in my chest and if i take my pulse i can feel it skip a beat.

I've never had this happen before while i was driving the accident was the first time. Does this sound like a PVC to you or something else?

My other prob is that i'm a 30yr. woman with 3 children and their father and i aren't together anymore. I recieved a notice in the mail saying my license was going to be taken away and that was about it. So how in the world do i go about getting it back? What do people do to get their license back because they have had an accident due to a medical problem? Not to mention how i'm going to get to work which is in a different city almost 2hrs away.

Re: New to this board and need help :)

Oh and i forgot to add that the ER automatically blamed it on the oxycontin that i'm on for back pain from 3 herniated discs and one that ruptured last year. I tried to tell them that i'd been on it for 4 mo. and have never had a prob with it and i take it exactly as prescribed. As for my episodes i've been having those for years way before i ever had any back probs and was put on meds.

Re: New to this board and need help :)

I would be a little concerned about driving a vehicle under the influence of all those types of meds you're on. They can ALL cause drowsiness. Percocet, Oxycoton, Flexiril and Ambien is not a good combo of drugs to mix driving with. As far as the license, i'm not sure how you would go about getting your license back. Did you commit a moving violation when you had the accident? Or did you have the right of way but just went into someone else's lane or something? Either way, they may try and say that you can't drive while under a doctor's care using those meds. Try to call the dept of Motor Vehicles and see what they tell you.

Good luck,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Did they do any heart related tests in the ER, such as an Echocardiogram?
I have a heart condition where blackouts are a symptom. If you have blackouts due to a medical reason, you may unfortunately never get your license back. Glad nobody was hurt in the accident.

Re: New to this board and need help :)

Thanks for your replies As for my meds i'm prescribed oxycontin on a daily basis but it doesn't make me drowsy. The percocet i only take maybe once a week and it's just for breakthrough pain and it's no different than the oxycontin other than it doesn't have any acetomenaphin in it. I need to change my signature because i no longer take the ambien, which i only took once in a while for sleep and only at night. I no longer take the flexeril but my doc has switched me to zanaflex which i only take at night for sleep. So the only med i take during the day is oxycontin which might cause drowsiness in someone just starting to take it or other meds like it but my body is accustomed to it and i don't have side effects from it.

Thanks for your help
